Who backs up your Microsoft 365 data? Not Microsoft.
Microsoft runs the service: the datacentres, the uptime, the platform. Protecting the content inside it is your side of the shared responsibility model. Their own customer agreement says so:
Microsoft answers for
- Keeping the service online
- Datacentre and platform failures
- The infrastructure your tenant sits on
You answer for
- Everything inside your mailboxes and sites
- Deletions: accidental, departing staff, malicious
- Ransomware that reaches synced files
- Getting it all back, when it happens
“We recommend that you regularly backup Your Content and Data that you store on the Services or store using Third-Party Apps and Services.”Source: Microsoft Services Agreement, §6b
The recycle bin
Permanently deleted mail is kept 14 days by default, 30 at most. Work or school files in the recycle bin are gone after 93 days. Then it’s unrecoverable.
Retention policies
A retention policy decides when data may be deleted. It governs expiry; it cannot rebuild a mailbox, and a mis-set policy is itself a way to lose everything at once.
Litigation hold
A legal instrument that freezes content for evidence. It preserves; it doesn’t restore. You can’t rebuild Monday morning’s inbox from a hold.
Geo-redundancy
Protects Microsoft’s platform from a regional disaster. It does nothing when the deletion comes from inside your own tenant, which is the far more common case.
- Deleted by mistake
- Emptied by a departing employee
- Encrypted by ransomware
- Wiped by a compromised admin
- Noticed six months too late
Three steps. Then it’s just handled.
No appliance, no agent on every laptop, no migration. You grant access, choose what matters, and Parity Backup keeps a complete, encrypted copy in Finland (EU) from then on.
Consent
Connect your tenant with a standard application consent. You see exactly which permissions are requested, you grant them as your own admin, and you can revoke them at any time.
Choose
Pick what to protect: whole mailboxes and their archives, files, sites. You pay only for the seats you actually protect, and you can change the selection whenever you like.
Done
Backups run automatically from then on. Every snapshot is encrypted, deduplicated and immutable. Restore to the original location, to another location, or download an export.
No standing access for anyone else. The copy lives in Finland (EU), encrypted at rest and in transit.
Built by the people who’d get the 3 a.m. call.
Parity Backup was written by a managed service provider to protect its own clients’ tenants first, including the archive mailboxes other tools quietly skip.
Managed, end to end
Nothing to install, nothing to host. Connect your tenant with admin consent, choose what to protect, and the first snapshot runs. We operate the infrastructure.
In-Place Archives included
Archive mailboxes are backed up and restorable, not skipped. Many tools are built on an API surface that cannot reach archives at all, and won’t tell you that.
Immutable history
Every backup is a point-in-time snapshot in content-addressed, deduplicated storage, encrypted at rest and in transit. Unchanged data is stored once, so deep history is cheap.
Monthly. Cancel anytime.
Per-seat billing with no annual lock-in. Pay only for the seats you protect; change the count whenever you like.
No standing third-party access
Your backups don’t live on a backup vendor’s multi-tenant cloud. The copy is stored in the EU on Hetzner infrastructure in Finland, and no third party holds standing access to it.
Plain scope, in writing
What’s covered is covered properly. What isn’t, and what no vendor can do, is stated plainly, right here on the site. See the coverage list below.
Security, stated precisely.
Backup buyers check the security behind a vendor. Here is exactly what stands behind Parity Backup: where your data lives, how it is held, and who can reach it.
Certified EU facilities
Backups are stored and processed on Hetzner infrastructure in Finland. Hetzner’s datacentre parks, including Helsinki, are certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2022: Hetzner certification. Your data’s landlord holds the certificates.
Finland is where we put it by default, and part of why the price is what it is: choosing Hetzner is how a seat costs $2 instead of $6. If your own policy or your regulator needs it somewhere else, we can store your backups in Azure, Wasabi or another provider you name, at additional cost. Ask us for a quote.
Encrypted and immutable
Every snapshot is encrypted at rest and in transit, content-addressed and deduplicated. Access to your tenant comes from your own admin consent, revocable by you at any time. No third party holds standing access to your backups.
No standing access
Nobody at Parity Backup keeps a key to your data. Access to your tenant is the admin consent you grant and revoke, and there is no back door: our support team can only reach your account through a secure access code, used for support and nothing else. The company holds Cyber Essentials, the UK government-backed security certification.
What Parity protects, and what it doesn’t.
Backup buyers deserve the whole sentence, not the marketing half of it.
